  1. Voo de Mar says:
Stats without the first six games of the 2nd set

    Points won by each set: | 42-43, 30-27, 29-26 |
Points on serve: Agassi 112, Philippoussis 85

Philippoussis [18] was playing his best tennis in the years 1999-2000, tennis fans could expect him winning one Slam apart from French Open in those years, but the problem was that a few times he faced the best players of the 90s, and during the Aussie Open ’99 when the draw was pretty open, he was ousted by Enqvist in the form of his life. The big-serving Australian certainly had the tools to stun Agassi [1], but before that Wimbledon quarterfinal Philippoussis had been involved in two dramatic five-setters in succession. It must have been a decisive factor when he lost the opener 4/7. Agassi was super methodical, one great return in the tie-break gave him the crucial edge (5:3), in the 2nd set he got his break at 4:3 (Philippoussis’ two double faults) and at 1:1 in the 3rd set. The Australian won as many as six games at ‘love’ on serve while Agassi just one. “Scud” was able to create his chances to break in each set.
