Points won by each set: | 43-37, 27-15, 18-26, 35-25 |
Unreturned serves:
29 % Zverev – 31 of 104
22 % Mensik – 27 of 122
A new ground for a very gifted, almost 21-year-old Mensik [27] – his first major semifinal, the 11th for an eight years older Zverev [3], and the big difference in their experience was pretty obvious during the match. The young Czech had three break points leading 4:3 in the opener, he seemed deflated after he lost that set. At 2:1* in the 3rd set he took a medical time-out off the court, and came back being revitalised. He broke at 3:2 and a good mixture of serve-and-volley actions + dropshots, gave him the set. He couldn’t keep it up for a longer period of time though, the rock solid Zverev raced to a 3:0 lead in the 4th set and fully controlled the rest of the match.
