  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 33-28, 21-31, 45-48 |
    Unreturned serves:
    16 % Majchrzak – 17 of 106
    19 % De Minaur – 19 of 100

    Quite often only one or two Top 10 players take place in “ATP 250” events, thus defeating three Top 10 players in a tournament of this kind it’s something unique – Majchrzak [76] did it as the first man since Dimitrov in Brisbane ’17.
    [4-8-6] – this is the ranking of Majchrzak’s last three victims in ‘s-Hertogenbosch while [8-3-5] in Dimitrov’s case…
    The Pole had a surprisingly good start in the final, he raced to a 3:0* lead and sealed the opener firmly. He invested a lot of energy to improve from 0:2* (30/40) to 2-all (30/15) in the 2nd set, therefore he was angry with himself when he lost his serve at 2:3 with a bunch of simple errors. He shouted at himself “Oddałem to!” twice (“I gave it back!”). In the decider he led *4:3 (40/15) when De Minaur played a stop-volley beyond his standard capabilities. The Australian broke back, and leading 6:5 (deuce) he was two points away from victory – Majchrzak delivered an unretuned serve out-wide. In the concluding tie-break, the Pole was playing superb tennis, led 5:2*, but De Minaur found himself two points away from the title again – then Majchrzak proposed his second S/V action, and for the second time he finished the point with a winner. Facing the first match point, De Minaur committed a double fault (he also began the tie-break with a DF). “This is an incredible, unbelievable and emotional feeling for me. I am living my dream. I put the hard work from the very early ages – me, my parents, my team – to get here after some difficult times.” said the 30-year-old Pole, who’d received a 13-month ban for a doping violation, and missed the entire 2023 season which caused his disappearce from the ATP ranking being no. 82 before it. After the ban he began an arduous process of reconstruction his position in men’s tennis playing Futures events in Tunisia at the beginning of 2024.

    Majchrzak’s route to his maiden title (his 55th main-level event):
    1 Otto Virtanen 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4) – 1 m.p. ☆
    2 James McCabe 6-0, 6-3
    Q Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-4, 6-3
    S Daniil Medvedev 7-6(4), 6-1
    W Alex de Minaur 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(5)

    ☆ It was Wednesday, Majchrzak and Virtanen faced each other for the second time within three days;
    on Sunday they played a rain-delayed semifinal in Birmingham, and the Finn won 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 withstanding a match point in the deciding tie-break

    Serve & volley: Majchrzak 2/2, De Minaur 0
