   An all-Australian final between players of two different generations. The 11 years younger Hewitt [21] defeated his future coach for the third time in a row dropping just four games (6-1, 6-3 in Adelaide ’99 and 6-2, 6-2 in Adelaide ’00), but in the Sydney final, Stoltenberg [94] created an outlook to win a set – at 4-all in the opener he led on return 30/15 when he tried to play a forehand winner and missed not by much, in the following game he had a point to level at 5 games apiece. For the 19-year-old Hewitt it was the second title of 2000 in the first two weeks of the season (a week before he triumphed in Adelaide), because of that he was mentioned as a contender to win a Slam (Aussie Open ’00) for the first time.
