    The first of four successive “Kroger St. Jude Championship” titles claimed by Nishikori [22]. Before him only Connors triumphed there four times (1978-79, 1983-84). The Japanese won with ease his first title indoors, only in the first round he was close to lose a set as he fought off a set point against the Ukrainian. In the final, Lopez [47] didn’t enjoy particularly good service day (apart from a game at *1:3 in the 2nd set when he fired three aces in a row) and he was pretty helpless in baseline rallies being unable to hit a ground-stroke winner for more than an hour. The year 2013 was pivotal in career of 24-year-old Nishikori; he became an elite player, capable of achieving good results in all conditions, and kept his Top 10-20 position until the end of the decade.

    ☆ Memphis, held in the years 1975-2017, was elevated in the years 2009-2013 to the ATP 500 status. The upgrade didn’t encourage the best players to visit Tennessee. In the year 2013 no Top 10 player took part in the event! Nishikori initiated his streak of four successive triumphs in Memphis ’13, each year defeating big serves in the straight sets finals (López, Raonić, Anderson, Fritz respectively). He skipped the last edition of the Memphis history in 2017 being undefeated in 17 consecutive matches (he had lost once in Memphis, during his first trip in 2009).
