   The 1986 means one of the best seasons in Gomez’s career. The 26-year-old Ecuadorian [12] played six Grand Prix finals that year winning four of them, two on the American green clay surface (the first one – Indianapolis), the so-called Har-Tru, faster than European clay-courts. Both sets of the Boston final were balanced, in the 1st Gomez saved a set point at *4:5, in the 2nd set Jaite led 40/15 on serve at 4-all. Gomez served out the championship without any troubles, and got the top prize of $37,400. Jaite [17] belonged to the best clay-courters in the second half of the 80s, he didn’t have any holes in his game, but his slim silhouette was a bit problematic in terms of capturing the biggest titles.
