   The Slam semifinal, one of the most important twenty matches of a season, hence a bit strange that they both were in cheerful mood throughout it. At the time Lendl [1] only led 5:0 in their H2H having won their previous match 7-6, 7-6, so in theory he couldn’t be so certain that he would defeat a more natural grass-court player again. In the 1st set he saved break points in two games. Mayotte [30], who committed four double faults in his opening service game (yet held), improved his serving in the 2nd set, but again wasted break points in two games, and lost the tie-break quickly 1/7. Another tie-break seemed plausible, but the American was broken at 30 serving to level at 4 games apiece in the 3rd set. Mayotte is a strange case – it was his second major semifinal (both on grass) even though he hadn’t won a Grand Prix title at the time (0-3 record). He was using Rossignol “F100 Carbon” racquet, a transitional model between two Rossignol models that featured the 1982 Slam champions (Kriek and Wilander, who played with “R40” and “F200” respectively).
