   It wasn’t a vital match in that Laver Cup edition, but I decided to make it because it has been the longest one so far in its 8-year-old history (one year missed due to Covid-19). The “super tie-break” matches are projected to last 2.5 hours maximum, especially indoors when two guys like Berrettini and Auger are big servers with powerful forehands… their match lasted 2 hours 52 minutes though! A few factors contributed: exceptionally long opener (it’s a rarity that more than 100 points are distributed in a set), Auger’s tendency to play in a slow pace on serve, and loose enforcement of the time-rule in the quasi-exhibition event like the Laver Cup (breaks between sets lasted 4 and 3 minutes respectively, instead of 2-2). Auger [11] was a better player throughout the 1st set, he broke on his 4th chance, led 5:2, at 6:5 he squandered five set points. In the 2nd set he wasted two break points at 1-all and another two at 5-all (Berrettini’s two winners, including his lone from the left side of his body). Nonetheless he had his chances in the super tie-break, first he led 7:5*, at 8-all he missed a forehand from a quite comfortable position. On first match point he attacked Berrettini’s backhand, but the Italian responded with a better shot than could have been expected, and Auger dived in vain. One year later they’d play very similar match on the same court, that time the duration is normal.
