   A unique route to the title – 23 year-old Querrey [20] was on the verge of defeat in his last three matches: 3-1-1 points away respectively! His final victory over Murray [4] can be perceived as a small miracle. The Scot came back from a *2:4 deficit in the ‘no-deuce’ opening set, and enjoying a 4:0 H2H record against Querrey, he had won all 10 sets they played. The 11th successive set was on the horizon as he created break points in three different games of the set no. Two: first at 2:1 in the longest game that day (four deuces), then at 4:3 and 5:4. Murray was a more patient baseliner in general, but when it mattered the most, he lost the longest rallies: at mini-match point he lost a 15-stroke rally (Querrey’s stop-volley), and a 20-stroke rally on the championship point. At 6:5 (30-all) he missed his backhand passing-shot not by much trying to create another match point. Querrey broke at 3:2 in the decider, but serving for the title, he faced a break point – fought it off with a forehand down the line winner. The last two points he obtained thanks to good serves. “In the second and third sets I played great, some of the best tennis I’ve played,” Querrey said. “That’s the highest-ranked guy I’ve ever beaten.”
