   Just like a year before, Del Potro [5] upset the local crowd having defeated Federer [6] in front of his biggest supporters. The years 2012-13 were unique in their rivalry which lasted more than a decade; they co-created deciding sets in seven successive matches (twice won Federer, then Del Potro thrice, and Federer twice again). In the Basel ’13 final, the Swiss saved a double set point at 4:5 (the second set point after the longest rally of the final – 26 strokes), but the tie-break he lost quickly. Breaks in games nos. 2 and 8 of the 2nd set helped him to equalise, yet he began the decider losing his service game despite three game points, and it was too late to recover because Del Potro saved his best serving for the decider. “It’s always a pleasure to play Roger. He’s the hero here and for me my biggest inspiration,” said Del Potro. Federer said: “I fought hard all the way. I lifted my level but so did he.”
