☆ Many players in the past managed to get the Indian Wells and Miami trophies within a month, but no-one before Sinner did it in such an impressive style not dropping a set! The 25-year-old Italian [2] was the closest to lose a set in California facing Fonseca as he trailed 3:6 in the first set tie-break; in Miami he was the closest to lose a set also in the fourth round, that time against Michelsen, trailing *2:5 in the 2nd set (Sinner was five times one game from losing a set in that match, but never closer than three points away). I wouldn’t be surprised if Lehecka [22] didn’t reach another final at this level. He was very lucky with his draw, facing an unknown player in the second round (Kouame) and a qualifier in the quarterfinal (Landaluce). In the semifinal the Czech took advantage of Fils’ exhaustion after his all tie-break three-set thriller against Paul. What’s certainly worth mentioning, is the fact Lehecka didn’t drop his serve in five matches – Sinner broke him already at 1-all. In the next game Lehecka created a triple break point, but Sinner fought it off with three unreturned serves. The 2nd set was played under the floodlights after a rain-delay, but the score was the same, yet Lehecka stayed longer competitive, he even led 4:3* (30/0). In the last game Sinner fired four aces, but only two were officially counted because at two other occasions the umpire called ‘let’ – in a repetition of those two points, Sinner notched two volley winners.

Sinner’s route to his 26th title:
    2 Damir Dzumhur 6-3, 6-3
    3 Corentin Moutet 6-1, 6-4
    4 Alex Michelsen 7-5, 7-6(4)
    Q Frances Tiafoe 6-2, 6-2
    S Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4)
    W Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4

    Serve & volley: Sinner 3/3, Lehecka 5/10
