Points won by each set: | 27-10, 26-34, 34-28, 35-29 |
Points won directly behind the serve:
28 % Johansson – 32 of 114
24 % Bjorkman – 27 of 109
An all-Swedish night session affair (Lars Graf of Sweden sat on umpire’s chair), featuring exceptional frequency of balls touching/hitting the net-cord at serves. Johansson [18] was sublime at the beginning, especially his backhand was working tremendously well. In the first game of the 2nd set he led 40/0, but committed three double faults in a row (!) and lost that game after five deuces. In the 4th set Bjorkman [64] improved from 1:3 to 4:3, and had a game-point at 4-all – Johansson lost his calmness for the only time that evening then, yet he took the last three games.
