  1. Voo de Mar says:
    Points won by each set: | 15-29, 29-16, 32-26, 42-35 |
    Unreturned serves:
    25 % Alcaraz – 26 of 101
    22 % Djokovic – 28 of 123

There was a lot at stake: Djokovic wanted to claim his 25th major title to be a lone record-holder given men and women (he’s tied with Margaret Court at 24) while Alcaraz could become the youngest Career Grand Slam champion at only 22. Djokovic had defeated Alcaraz on the same court last year, he entered the final having played one match fewer (got a walkover from Mensik in the last 16) thus he couldn’t ask for better circumstances in his beloved tournament where he was 10 out of 10 as far as the finals are concerned. In the opener he was sublime, but as he led 6-2, *1:1 (15-all) Alcaraz got a point with a dead net-cord winner and the things turned around into his favour. As the match progressed it become obvious it’d be super tough for the veteran to produce another miracle (the previous one to some degree occurred in the semifinal as he ousted Sinner despite losing to the Italian 10 straight sets). But the Serb is the best five-set specialist of the Open Era, a master of the energy preservation; he fought off six break points at the beginning of the 4th set, and gave the impression his level in that set would be higher than in the two preceeeding sets. At 4-all he had a mini set point but made an error in a six-stroke rally. Ultimately Alcaraz prevailed after 3 hours 2 minutes, celebrating on his back. “It’s a great feeling. Completing a Career Grand Slam was something that was on my mind,” Alcaraz said. “Every time that I come here to Australia, I just have preseason with my mind on this tournament to try to work as hard as I can and to be as well-prepared as I can, to play this tournament and try to get the trophy.”

Alcaraz’s route to his 25th title:
    1 Adam Walton 6-3, 7-6(2), 6-2
    2 Yannick Hanfmann 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-2
    3 Corentin Moutet 6-2, 6-4, 6-1
    4 Tommy Paul 7-6(6), 6-4, 7-5
    Q Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-2, 6-1
    S Alexander Zverev 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-7(3), 6-7(4), 7-5 ☆
    W Novak Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5

☆ Alcaraz three points away from losing in the semifinal as he trailed 3:5 on serve (it lasted 5:27h – the third longest match in the AO history)
