   Blockx [34] – the first Belgian in the US Open quarterfinals, he is the biggest revelation of the ’26 season beside Jodar. His route to the last eight wasn’t super demanding, but he entered the fourth round vs Cerundolo with a heavy taped left thigh. During the match he needed a medical treatment to his ribs, he later said he’d been considering a retirement in the mid 3rd set. Against Khachanov [50], he was bothered by the pain in lower back and blisters, so generally he felt uncomfortable with his entire body. He carried on though, serving pretty well. As he faced a break point at 2-all in the 3rd set, he decided to play his first serve-and-volley action, Khachanov passed him with his backhand, and the 21-year-old Belgian decided to quit… 30-year-old Khachanov advances to his third major semifinal, this time it came completely unexpected because he was losing more matches than winning them in 2026.
