   The Nadal vs Schwartzman rivalry ended at 11-1 for the Spaniard, at majors they faced each other six times, and Nadal [2] never experienced a one-way traffic victory. There were three important things about Schartzman [21] performing better in the “best of five” format: his tenacity, great physical preparation and an excellent two-handed backhand (hence Nadal’s cross-court FH force a bit limited). Nadal could overwhelm his opponents with his massive ground-strokes, taking away their will to fight, but it was not the case with Schwartzman, who could never count on many free points due to his modest stature (170 cm), therefore he always kept fighting until the end. During that night session encounter, he stunned the crowd in consecutive sets: in the opener he improved from 0:4* to 4-all (double break point) – then he should have won the game with his FH top-spin passing-shot down the line, but he chose a cross-court slice and the ball went wide; in the 2nd set he trailed 1:5* (0/15) when he won a point of the match with a forehand passing-shot despite Nadal’s three volleys. He erased a double break deficit again only to lose the last two games. At *2:5 in the 3rd set he acted like he believed he would come back one more time, however, Nadal gave his all and got the decisive break, then screamed in joy. The match was exceptionally long given the number of points played, but the breaks between the sets lasted 5 and 4 minutes respectively instead of the regular 2-2.
