   Cobolli [35], at the age of 23, stepped up to a higher level in tennis hierarchy: first he clinched his first two ATP titles within two months, then he reached his first major quarterfinal (Wimbledon), and finally became a Davis Cup hero clinching the semi- and final rubbers after very dramatic encounters. In his first meeting against Rublev [17], the young Italian surprised his opponent with very aggressive returns off Rublev’s second serves. The Russian felt frustration already at *0:2 (0/30), and he threw his racquet. After losing his serve for the second time, he started to punish himself in his quite typical style, vigorously hitting his left thigh with the frame of his racquet. When Cobolli was serving at *2:3, the longest game of the final occurred: they both were playing their best tennis, the Italian fought off three break points and got the deciding break in the following game. From *5:4 (15/40) onwards, Cobolli won four points quickly, sealing the title with a backhand down the liner winner, and celebrated on his back. “I think it is the best moment and match of my life for sure. I have to say ‘sorry’ to Andrey because today I played unbelievable. I am so happy and proud of myself,” Cobolli said “I can see my family, friends, brother and girlfriend here and it is a surprise. I am really happy. I passed many battles this year and this kind of day is good for your mind. I am so happy, I just want to (lift) the trophy.”
